Pumice stones are collected on Okinawa’s shores, and are then recycled into this green glass. The galss is hand-made in the artisan's atelier. Recycled glass is surrounded by leather code which is japanese traditional way for knot. Beautiful knot is collaboration with How to Wrap.
Glass Studio Tetoteto:
Run by Sakae Matsumoto, Saisei Glass Studio Tetoteto specializes in creating Ryukyu glass using discarded beverage bottles.
After the war, during the period of U.S. administration in Okinawa, glass artisans rebuilt their workshops and resumed glassmaking by reusing discarded bottles such as Coca-Cola bottles.
Matsumoto works with two techniques: mold-blowing, which produces simple and highly functional forms, and free-blowing, which brings out the inherent softness and warmth of glass.
In addition, in 2021 he succeeded in producing glass using pumice stones that had drifted to Okinawa as a primary raw material. This innovation has expanded his color palette, ranging from black to viridian, emerald, and ramune blue, further broadening the scope of his work.
HOW TO WRAP_:
Founded in 2014 as a brand that rethinks “wrapping” for the contemporary age.
By inheriting Japan’s traditional wrapping culture while reexamining the value of wrapping itself, HOW TO WRAP_ incorporates contemporary elements into its designs, proposing new forms of wrapping that suit modern lifestyles.
